My Personal State of the Union: Short Term Dangerous, Long Term Positive

Hi Everybody,

I am pleased to announce that my “Resistance Hour” video podcast is now available each week on my website. We are working on making the live broadcast available also. Meanwhile here is a sample of the new broadcast:    https://streamyard.com/swyccyzya63z

This column concludes my series on the Biden presidency at least for now. This is my own “State of the Union”.

Currently Dismal but redemption is in sight

By Larry Fedewa, Ph.D.

(Washington DC, February 16, 2022) The current state of the Union is: “surrounded by actual and potential disasters”:

·       9.7% inflation (PPI),

·       southern border sins against humanity,

·       worst urban crime wave in history,

·       World War III threats in Europe, Middle East, and Taiwan Strait,

·       downgraded military readiness, and

·       perceived abuse of federal and state government powers related to COVID19 and K-12 education as well as

·       enemy infiltration of Higher Education

– to name the most obvious.

It is hard to believe that most of these situations have occurred because of actions taken in a single year by the current administration. So, one could say that the state of the union is rather dismal.

Yet there is hope. Keep Reading

Freedom’s Call to Action

By Larry Fedewa, Ph.D.
(Washington DC, July 3, 2020) The original poem was written in 1960 and proved remarkably prescient of the events to follow in the eventful 1960’s. It was the basis for this poem which was written in 2012, at the height if the Obama era, and has proven predictive of events up to the current civil unrest. It expresses, I think, the challenges we face today when our very freedom is stake.
The hallmark of America’s genius since July 4, 1776 has been our ability to conceive and follow as our guiding star, our God-given right “to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” A major component of this ideal is “equal justice under the law”, which has seen a long, slow, and costly struggle, including a war which cost more American casualties than all the other wars combined. And we have come a long way since 1776. But not far enough.

Stations of the Cross

Comments:
Truly an epic poem shared with passion. Where the pace is rapid, I couldn’t help reflecting on the similarly hypnotic cadence of The Hound of Heaven, a poem that has been my companion and consolation for many decades. The message also reflects the wisdom and gratitude in Amazing Grace: “I once was lost but now am found …” Great Lenten meditation. Hard to imagine Dr. Fedewa could cover so much — and convey so much more — in just 4 minutes and 19 seconds. Time well spent, especially now during Lent. Thank you!
I just attended the stations of the cross @ St. Katharine Drexel Church here in Frederick, Maryland. Thank you!
